Barden Ridge

Barden Ridge is one of the newer suburbs in the Sutherland Shire. It was originally part of Menai, and then Lucas Heights.

There are approximately 4,500 residents in Barden Ridge, but this number is fast growing as new areas of the suburb are developed. The Ridgeway is the latest estate being sold off and developed, with new parks and community facilities being recently completed.

Barden Ridge is mostly residential. There is plenty of surrounding bushland, popular for bushwalking and bike riding. There are also tracks down to the Woronora River. One of the most popular tracks is from Thomas Mitchell Drive down to The Needles, a beautiful spot where you can enjoy all the native trees and plants and have a swim in the river. It’s also a great place to take your dog for a walk and swim.

There are no local shops in the suburb, but shopping locations in Menai are only a few short minutes drive away.

The Ridge Sports Complex was officially opened on 27th May 2013. It consists of ovals used for soccer, football and rugby, netball courts, BMX track, synthetic athletics track and, for golf enthusiasts, a driving range and an 18 hole golf course.

One of the most popular spots in the complex is the large, fully fenced off leash dog park. It is split into two sections, with large open grassed areas and natural bushland areas.

Public Transport in Barden Ridge is limited to buses only. There are two train stations a 15 minute drive away; Padstow on the East Hills line or Sutherland on the Illawarra / Cronulla line.

There are two schools in Barden Ridge. Lucas Heights Community School is the local public school, providing quality education from Kindergarten through to year 12. Shire Christian School also caters for students from Kindergarten to year 12, as well as a Prep school for children aged 3-5.
