The suburb of Alfords Point has a rich history that dates back to pre-European settlement times. The area was originally inhabited by the Dharawal Aboriginal people, who lived off the land and used the Georges River for fishing and transportation.

When European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s, they began to establish farms and homesteads along the riverbanks. One of the earliest landowners in the area was William Fowler, who purchased land near Alfords Point in 1830.

The name “Alfords Point” is believed to have originated in the late 1800s, when a local farmer named James Alford purchased land in the area. Alford built a ferry service across the Georges River, which became an important transportation link between Alfords Point and nearby suburbs.

As the years went by, the suburb gradually developed into the residential area that it is today. In 1973, the construction of the Alfords Point Bridge helped to open up the area to further development, leading to the establishment of new homes, schools, and community facilities.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 Census, the population of Alfords Point was 4,921. This included 908 families with an average of 1.9 children.

Alfords Point Bridge is 445 metres long, which is 1,460 feet. Recent roadworks on Alfords Point Road has really improved the traffic flow in a once heavily congested area.

Alfords Point Bridge was officially opened on September 7, 1973. In 2008 the second stage was opened to increase the number of lanes on the bridge.
