Bonnet Bay

Bonnet Bay in the north western side of the Sutherland Shire. It is located on the eastern edge of the Woronora River, which joins the Georges River, and is surrounded by Jannali and Como. The suburb was established in 1969.

There was a cave in the area was known in the ‘’The Bonnet” as it was the same shape as the old fashioned lady’s bonnet. This name was applied to the nearby bay in the Woronora River, which then also formed the name of the suburb Bonnet Bay.

Just over 2,200 residents live in Bonnet Bay. It is a beautiful suburb, surrounded by bushland and plenty of nature reserves, many of which are on the banks of the Woronora River. Many residents enjoy bushwalks, bike riding, fishing and dog walking. 

Bonnet Bay is also a great spot to launch your boat or canoe into the Woronora River. There is a fairly quiet boat ramp at the end of Bonnet Bay reserve. Unfortunately there is no pontoon, but the sandy beach does make it easy for passengers to board.

Bonnet Bay is mostly residential, though there is a small set of shops where you can find a small supermarket, hairdresser, accountant and a pizza shop.

For those keen on sports, in Bonnet Bay you can find a baseball field (Tom Evans Field), a soccer field (Lakewood City Reserve) and some tennis courts (Lakewood City Tennis Courts).

Bonnet Bay Public School is the local primary school, educating students from kindergarten to year 6.

Did You Know? Most of the streets in Bonnet Bay are named after American Presidents, including Washing Drive, Kennedy Crescent and Jefferson Crescent.
